Cockaigne of Lyon - the Story of Schlaraffen Land
Woodcut, France, between 1560 and 1570

Illustration taken from:

Müller, Martin: The Schlaraffen Land. The Dream of Laziness and Idleness. Vienna 1984.

Like in many other prints of “Cockaigne” we see (here right in the center) a house covered with sweet flat dough-cakes or gingerbread. Equally well known are the sausage-fence, the merry drinking companions, the fisherman, and the horse laying eggs - favorite motifs of an “Earthly Paradise”, with opulent feasting and drinking.
